Poppers

Poppers are nitrites which get their name from the opening pop of the first phials on the market : "pop". They are inhaled from the bottle.

Effects

The effect, a quick dizzying and stimulating rush (from 30 seconds to 2 minutes), is almost immediate. A disinhibiting product, it causes a feeling of internal heat and intensified sex drive.

Harm

Poppers causes erythemas (red rashes on the skin), headaches that can be violent but often short-lived, increases in the intraocular pressure, dizziness and tachycardia.

In case of repeated use during a party

People can feel exhausted due to a drop in blood oxygenation which can peak into a blueish skin tone called “cyanosis.” It can also lead to yellowish crusts around nose and lips. Some users face temporary erectile dysfunction.

WATCH OUT

In combination with erectile dysfunction medications (Viagra®, Cialis®...), poppers can cause potentially fatal heart problems.
